Hospice of Knox County

Volunteers: The Heart of Hospice

Volunteers play an extremely important role in Hospice, both locally and nationally. Simply put…without them, Hospice would not be able to carry on their work.

Hospice volunteers provide assistance at all levels of skill. Many are friends and relatives of former Hospice patients, who experienced first hand the love and compassionate care that volunteers provide. Others simply have a passion for sharing and helping others.

All Hospice volunteers go through our training process. In addition, Hospice has a monthly support group where volunteers meet, share their thoughts and concerns, and listen to topical speakers who constantly increase their knowledge about end-of-life issues.

What Do Hospice Volunteers Do?

  • Interact with our patients by:
  • Playing cards
  • Reading
  • Listening; being a companion
  • Running errands
  • Doing light household chores
  • Taking patients on rides around Knox County
  • Help in the Hospice office:
  • Clerical
  • Switchboard
  • Bookkeeping
  • Mailings

If you would like to assist Hospice as a volunteer, or want to learn more, please contact our volunteer coordinator at (740) 397-5188 or email jean.miller@hospiceofknox.org.
